Four friends decide to celebrate their reunion with a trip to Etlidey, a remote island off the south coast of Iceland. One could easily get lost there, it is a strange place of dangerous beauty.
And indeed, not all of them will return alive. Last night a girl in the group is found dead, and there is a lot of evidence that leads to the conclusion that she has been murdered.
Hulda Hermansdottir, whom we met in the Dark, goes to that ominous place to investigate this case. Shortly afterwards, however, as the tangle unfolds, the inspector discovers frightening similarities to an earlier case, the death of another girl ten years ago in the Western Fjords, as part of a couple's romantic escape, which ended in tragedy. What exactly is going on here? Who is waiting in the wilderness? Hulda, younger in this case, at the height of her career, is called upon to discover the truth. It will be prevented by dense shadows, distorting mirrors and well-hidden secrets.
The Island is another creepy, riveting novel by Scandinavian noir reviewer Ragnar Jonason. (From the presentation on the back of the book)
